GRASSROOTS HEALTH

SUMMER 2022 // As a non-profit based in Washington D.C., The Grassroot Project mobilized college athletes for HIV prevention efforts in underprivileged middle schools. But as the scope of their mission evolved to support a more holistic approach to health education, the need for a full rebrand quickly became clear. As part of my internship, I was put in charge of creating a unified visual identity across all media for the brand-new Grassroots Health.

WEB DESIGN VIDEO MOCKUP

Designed to roll out with the rebranding of Grassroots Health, I developed a large-scale vision for an overhauled grassrootshealth.us. After creating the sitemap, I used Adobe XD, Photoshop, and Premiere to create a mockup video that visualized the interactive elements, brand implementation, and general layout. My internship at Grassroots concluded shortly after the site entered prototyping.

GRIDIRON GLORY

FALL 2021–2022 // Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet.

ALL-GG APP WIREFRAMES

For the last two seasons of Gridiron Glory, I helped implement an all-new campaign called the “All-GG Team” — which recognizes 50 of the best high school football players from across the region. As part of the buildup to the reveal, we open voting to the fans for one Player of the Year. And although voting takes place on the WOUB website, it’s been my vision to create a comprehensive hub for all the voting, information, and footage for Player of the Year finalists, Coach of the Year nominees, and All-GG team members. These wireframes were created in Adobe XD to fulfill that vision.

SEASON 23 (2022)

I expanded upon the original concept by animating the transitions and incorporating interactive infographics that compare each finalist’s statistics to those of the other All-GG players.

SEASON 22 (2021)

This year’s foundational concept was most focused on creating a voting interface for the Player of the Year finalists, and providing basic information about the players’ stats, accolades, and highlights.

INTERACTIVE DATA VISUALIZATION

FALL 2022 // This project is the result of my graphic design curriculum. The prompt: create an abstract visualization of personal data that you collect, and use sub-sets of that data to create a unique element for each data point. I chose to log hours in the newsroom spent on the production of Gridiron Glory — for each task, I tracked the duration, location, mood, time of day, and staff involved. I chose to interpret my data in an interactive medium to allow for thorough analysis of the data.

NINTENDO SWITCH NEW FEATURES HOAX

JANUARY 2018 // What began as a “what if” design project would soon send the internet into a spiral. When I decided to frame my concept for a Nintendo Switch firmware update an employee “leak,” tens of thousands of fans took to Twitter, Reddit, and YouTube to debate the veracity of this footage. Though factual inconsistencies would emerge and discredit its legitimacy, the footage has been widely hailed as one of the most faithful, well-made Nintendo mockups.

mockup designs

The project began simply as a way to visualize highly requested features for the Nintendo Switch user interface. Game sorting, console voice chat, and menu themes were (and still are) among the most wanted features for Nintendo Switch users. But after sharing with some friends, it was suggested that this project could easily pass for real footage if posted as such. It’s a strategy that often captures the attention of the entire community – including Nintendo itself. With that motivation, I decided to take this project one step further and animate these faux features.

the final product

After streamlining the features of his proposed firmware update, my concept video would garner hundreds of thousands of views overnight. With an animation created from scratch and without any streaming software, I successfully posed as a software testing employee that was looking to stir the pot. It would take the collective scrutiny of an entire community to find even the most minor inconsistencies within his 80-second production. Watch the original on-screen footage here.

the response

There was a lot of discussion within the community regarding the legitimacy of my footage. Below are some of the top articles and discussions surrounding the viral video.

Well guys, I'm sorry.
The Switch 5.0 Leak is OFFICIALLY fake! I'm proud to announce that I was behind the mock-up that so many of us wish that @NintendoAmerica learns from.
Thank you to everyone for your kind words, and lets all pray for a direct soon!

VIDEO GAME USER INTERFACE CONCEPTS

SPRING 2018 // My design journey really started here — it was my love of pop culture and its artwork that prompted me to teach myself the ins & outs of the Adobe creative suite. These animations in particular are the culmination of years of imitation and inspiration from the user interfaces of Nintendo games. With new entries on the horizon for Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart, I wanted to try my hand at how the new UI designs might come together.
